Philosophy and Approach:

I believe the counseling process needs to be a mutually constructive effort between counselor and client(s). People seek professional counseling generally because some aspect(s) of their life is causing them significant difficulty and/or emotional pain. As a therapist I believe the best counseling approach involves 4 steps – 1) Clarification of the treatment issue(s) 2) Selection of treatment approach 3) Therapy phase, and 4) Closure/Termination. Sometimes these may all be accomplished in brief therapy (1-4 sessions). Other times a longer period (10+ sessions) of therapy may be needed to facilitate healing or persistent change.

During the Therapy phase I may offer clients direct feedback (confrontational and/or supportive), social skills training, insight, advice, behavior modification strategies, EMDR, and/or writing/reading suggestions as deemed useful and consistent with your therapeutic goals.

Clinical and Professional Experience:

My clinical experience includes group, family and individual therapy in Chemical Dependency Treatment provided in dual diagnosis psychiatric facility to both adolescents and adults. I held a general private practice in a state licensed mental health clinic specializing in the treatment of domestic violence. I keep current on continuing education requirements as determined by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists.

Education:

Master of Arts, Counseling Psychology, Lewis and Clark College, 1993; Bachelor of Arts, General Studies, Seattle Pacific University, 1990.

Fee Schedule:

$80 per 60-minute session; $120 per 90-minute payable at time of service. I am eligible for some third party reimbursement.

As a professional counselor I vow to offer professional and informed care in your effort to heal, change or grow. To this end I subscribe to the following Code of Ethics and Client Bill of Rights:
