Group "Secure Base" Counseling

This group is designed as a follow-up to The Insight Workshop.

Group's Purpose: To provide group members with a warm, instructive, supportive social setting for "working through" their dating and romantic experiences. The group environment will be dedicated to aiding those revising their attachment style towards the secure ideal, i.e. greater satisfaction, comfort with closeness, reduced fear of abandonment, warmth, openness, etc.

Group Members: As attendees from the The Insight Workshop, those joining the Secure Base Group have expressed a commitment to contribute to and support each other's therapeutic goals. Members will share the a 2-hour weekly psychotherapeutic group where they discuss their past or current personal experiences in the context of adult attachment theory. A primary focus will be in developing constructive positive solutions. Group size will be limited to 8 members.

Group Processes: Through therapist facilitated feedback, shared journals, open self-disclosure, examination of self-talk, role plays, observing/supporting/challenging others, members will contribute and receive two levels of attachment related support:

1) Secure Base - Includes creating a social context where people feel safe to explore relationships outside the group, knowing there's a secure place to return to feel a part of, gain perspective, receive support, accurate "agenda-free" feedback;

2) Safe Haven - Members will receive and offer others a social context for facing loss, abandonment, disappointment, confusion and/or threats in their romantic relationships.

Group Rules/Norms: Confidentiality will be required. Dating with-in the group will be strongly discouraged. Useful ways to give and take feedback will be discussed. Norms will be established to promote safety and security within the group.

To Join Group:  This group is open to those who have completed the Insight Workshop and have expressed an interest in further therapeutic work.  An Intake Interview is required in order to discuss your goals, the group expectations and rules.  Joining members agree to a minimum of 10 group sessions with continued participation optional as desired.  

To Leave Group:  It is requested that a member inform group within three weeks of their decision to leave group.  This allows the group time for closure and final feedback between everyone.  

Time:  Currently the group meets Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 pm.  

Cost:  Group fee is $35/week, paid in advance monthly.
